Driver Charged In Accident That Left Coventry Student Pinned

A driver has been charged in an accident that left a Coventry student pinned between vehicles at a school, police said.

COVENTRY, CT — A man making a delivery to Coventry High School in December has been charged in an accident that left a student pinned between vehicles, police said.

Bernard Luetjen, 42, of Hartford, surrendered on a warrant Tuesday, police said.

The incident took place at 7:18 a.m. on Dec. 5, according to a report. Luetjen was operating a delivery van at the time and was dropping off newspapers at the school, according to a report. He had backed his vehicle into a "female high school student," pinning her for a short time between his vehicle and another vehicle, according to a report.

The student received non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Luetjen was charged with reckless driving and unsafe backing, according to a report. He was released on a court-set written promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Feb. 26, according to a report.
