Drunken Pedestrian Hit 'Head-On' In Mansfield: Report
A man standing in the middle of a road in Mansfield early Sunday morning, was hit by a car, state police said.

MANSFIELD, CT — A 22-year-old from Waterbury, who was standing in the middle of a main road in Mansfield early Sunday morning, was hit by a passing car, state police said.
According to a crash report, at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, the man, who was "heavily intoxicated," was standing in the westbound lane of Route 44, near 681 Middle Turnpike, the local address for that stretch of the state road. The man had on no reflective clothing and was not carrying a flashlight, according to a crash report.
A 2015 Toyota Avalon driven by a 54-year-old Vernon man then hit the 22-year-old head-on, causing him to slam into the windshield of the Toyota, according to a crash report. As the driver of the Toyota applied his brakes, the 22-year-old flew off the windshield, rolled onto the shoulder and landed in a wooded area, according to a crash report.

The 22-year-old complained about a leg injury and was taken to Windham Hospital, according to a crash report.
The driver of the Toyota was not hurt but the impact left the windshield smashed, state police said.

The 22-year-old was given a verbal warning for standing or walking on a road while under the influence of drugs or alcohol to the degree that he causes a hazard, according to a crash report.
