E.O. Smith Athlete Nominated for State's Top Highlight of 2016-17
CIAC officials have named 16 finalists for the top championship event of the 2016-17 school year, and fans may vote for their favorite.

STORRS, CT — The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC), the governing body of state high school sports, is offering fans a chance to vote on the top championship events of the 2016-17 school year.
The NFHS Network streamed 61 state championship events live, and CIAC officials have selected 16 finalists, one from each sport covered, and fans may visit www.casciac.org to view the video highlights of each nominee and vote in the poll.
Among the 16 finalists are four events involving athletes from Hartford and Tolland county schools:

- E.O. Smith swimmer McKenna Dale breaking the state record in the 50-yard freestyle.
- The Class M boys basketball final between Bloomfield and Brookfield.
- The 182-lb. State Open wrestling final between Jake Constantine of Danbury and Fransisco Jiminian of East Hartford.
- The five-set Class M boys volleyball final between Newington and South Windsor.
The contest will also be shared on Twitter and Facebook, and those votes will be included. Voting will run through July 7.
