E.O. Smith Basketball Legend Ron Pires Named To State Coaches Hall

STORRS, CT — The Connecticut High School Coaches Association announced Wednesday that E.O. Smith boys basketball coaching legend Ron Pires is among its 2023 Hall of Fame inductees.

Pires is slated t0 be honored at the 45th Annual Induction Ceremony and dinner, on May 11 at 6:30 pm at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington..

Pires coached Boys Basketball for 43 years at E.O. Smith, where he led the program to a record of 591-378 for a .608 winning percentage and a two state-runner up finishes in 1993 and 1994.

His teams produced 12 league championships in the NCCC and six conference tournament championships.

He was named CHSCA Boys Basketball Coach of the Year in 2015.

Pires was inducted into the E.O. Smith Foundation Hall of Fame and the Eastern Connecticut State University Hall of Fame, where he is still a top-10 all-time scorer during his playing days from 1967-71.
