E.O. Smith High School Swimmer Breaks State Record at Class L Championships

She won two individual events at the class meet at Southern Connecticut State University.

NEW HAVEN, CT — For the sixth straight year, the Darien High School girls swimming team captured the Class L state championship Tuesday at the Southern Connecticut State University pool.

The Blue Wave compiled 729.5 points to outdistance runnerup Cheshire, which had 666.5.

McKenna Dale of E.O. Smith High School broke a longstanding state record in winning the 50 freestyle. Her time of 23.17 seconds broke the mark of 23.20 set by Lauren Moore of Wilton in 1997.

Dale also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.25 seconds.
