Eastern Professor Offering 'Fungus Tour' Next Week
A program at Eastern will include tips on identifying edible, medicinal, and poisonous mushrooms.

WILLIMANTIC, CT — As part of Eastern Connecticut State University's Big Read 2024 program, an event is on tap that explores the themes of "The Bear" by Andrew Krivak and connects visitors with the region's natural surroundings.
The program is entitled, "Fungi of the New England Forest: A Foray of Edible, Medicinal, and Poisonous Mushrooms," and is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Participants will be meting at the Student Center, Room 217.

Eastern biology professor Jonathan Hulvey and his students will offer a guided exploration of the fungi found in Eastern’s Arboretum.
Inspired by the setting of" The Bear" and the theme "Where We Live," the easy walk will include tips on identifying edible, medicinal, and poisonous mushrooms, along with the natural history of fungi.
