Resiliency is the ability to spring back from and successfully adapt to adversity. An increasing body of research from the fields of education, psychology, psychiatry, and sociology is showing that most people can bounce back from stress, crises, and trauma, and experience rewarding full lives having persevered through challenging circumstances. To help educators and mental health practitioners understand and utilize resiliency, Natchaug Hospital is offering a Professional Development Seminar at the University of Connecticut’s Storrs campus Dodd Center on Friday, May 4 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. The seminar will be presented by Natchaug Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Leah Russack-Baker, Ed.D., LADC and Joe Russack-Baker, BS.
We know that people have resilient natures but, if it is not cultivated and restored, it goes unused. We can cultivate resiliency by exploring our own stories and experiences of perseverance and tapping into the rich stories of our clients and families to help manufacture hope in the most challenging times.
This presentation is intended for professionals working with school-age youth including special education teachers and directors, guidance counselors, and school nurses, psychologists and social workers.

Check-in begins at 9 a.m. Due to space limitations and preparation of materials, advance registration is required for this free seminar for which educators can earn two Continuing Education Units. Please allow ample time to park and walk to the Dodd Center.
