Flag Honoring Vets at Mansfield Municipal Center Flipped Upside Down
The flag commemorating veterans service was tampered with over the weekend, officials said.

MANSFIELD, CT — An American flag flying in a courtyard commemorating the service of veterans at the Audrey P. Beck Municipal Building was flipped upside down over the weekend and was temporarily flying that way, municipal officials said Tuesday.
The incident took place on Sunday, town officials said. They were not clear on whether it was a protest or pranksters.
"On Sunday the United States flag flying in our veterans courtyard at the Beck Municipal Building was tampered with by some unknown person(s), and was temporarily flying upside down," town officials said in a statement released Tuesday.

Town offices are closed on the weekend and residents brought the issue to the attention of Community Center staff members, who "immediately fixed the flag," municipal officials said.
"The Town of Mansfield takes great pride in flying the U.S. flag in accordance with state and federal protocols, and condemns this disrespect to one of our national emblems," town officials said. "We appreciate that this issue was brought to our attention and quickly corrected by our staff."
