Free Radon Test Kits from the Eastern Highlands Health District

January is National Radon Action Month.

Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that is responsible for more than 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year in the US. It is a naturally occurring radioactive gas formed from the natural decay of uranium, and is found in rock, soil & water. While radon in outdoor air poses a relatively low threat to human health, radon can enter homes from the surrounding soil and become a health hazard inside buildings.

Director of Health for the Eastern Highlands Health District, Robert Miller, comments that “all Connecticut homes should be tested for radon and action should be taken to reduce high levels. Radon is particularly dangerous because you can’t see or smell it, however, a simple and inexpensive test can save lives.”

The Eastern Highlands Health District is offering a limited number of FREE test kits to residents of the 10 towns they serve.
