A year ago, and a year ago from then, I wrote of a personal observation and discovery, the amazing flocks of swifts that circle local chimneys in Willimantic from May through early September. I remain enamored of the sight -- and sound -- of these indefatigable little creatures.
Yesterday, May 2, 2014, as I entered a local restaurant near Windham Town Hall, the dusky day about to descend to night, I heard something that I hadn't since September, and there they were, spinning dervishly around the chimneys of Windham Town Hall. The swifts have returned, and you will hear them over the fields of local farms during the day and over selected chimneys in Victorian Willimantic just before sunset every day. Take pause in your day and marvel at the sight and sound of chimneys swifts.
