UPDATE: Whatever Happened to Those Thunderstorms?

The National Weather Service's hazardous weather outlook for the area is pretty much history.

UPDATE: 5:35 p.m.

Remember that storm that was supposed to be here sometime this afternoon and early evening? It’s not only late, but the National Weather Service, which had announced its pending arrival, now says the storm’s likely not coming at all.

In its late afternoon update, the National Weather Service says there is now only a “slight” chance of showers but otherwise you’ll be able to enjoy the sunny skies for the remainder of the evening. Temps will remain in the mid 80s.

Friday will be a nice sunny day with temps in the 80s, and thunderstorms possible on Saturday.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The National Weather Service has issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for the chance of severe weather in Hartford and Tolland counties.

But in its latest advisory, the NWS writes there is only a “low risk for an isolated strong thunderstorm” this afternoon and early evening.

Likely, the biggest issue today, will be dealing with the area’s first official heat wave of the season.

By early afternoon temps are expected to reach 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. It will be a bit cooler on Friday with temps in the upper 80s, and for the next few days, temps will be in the low to mid 80s.

It’s beginning to feel like summer is really almost here.

Here is the National Weather Service’s latest hyperlocal forecast for Mansfield/Storrs.

Thursday, A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. West wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight, Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Friday, Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

Friday Night, A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday, A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 5pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday Night, Partly cloudy, with a low around 59.

Sunday, Sunny, with a high near 79.
