Heroin Investigation Leads to Arrest of Baltic Man
The man was taken into custody on Monday for drug charges, state police said.

SPRAGUE, CT — A Baltic man has been arrested by the State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force following an investigation into the sale of heroin, state police said.
A warrant was served Monday on Tomas Ortiz, 53, of Baltic, for two counts of heroin sales, state police said. He was held overnight on a $150,000 bond and was to appear in court Tuesday, state police said.
The Statewide Narcotics Task Force's East Office is comprised of detectives from the Connecticut State Police, the Norwich Police Department, the Groton City Police Department, the New London Police Department and United States Drug Enforcement Administration. Detectives from the SNTF and the Sprague Resident Trooper’s Office initiated a several month-long investigation into the sale of heroin in the Sprague area, state police said.

Through the course of this lengthy investigation detectives developed a suspect — Ortiz — and continued the investigation. Detectives applied for, and were granted, an arrest warrant for Ortiz from the court, state police said.
