Husky Market Program Again Fighting Food Insecurity At UConn
The Undergraduate Student Government at the University of Connecticut will again be offering food assistance to students.

STORRS, CT — The Undergraduate Student Government at the University of Connecticut will be launching the annual Husky Market program aimed at reducing food insecurity among students.
This year's program is set to begin on Sept. 6.
The program began following a 2020 study that found that more than 55 percent of UConn students experience some level of food insecurity, student government representatives said.

This is the second year that the UConn Undergraduate Student Government will be providing students with $300 grocery store gift cards "to ensure they can purchase healthy groceries," student government representatives said.
The application is open to all undergraduate students studying on the Storrs campus.

"No student should ever have to go to bed hungry and we are so excited to bring the program back for another year," said Peter Spinelli, the vice president of the UConn Undergraduate Student Government.
Student government representatives said it is anticipated that the Husky Market program will reach more than 1,500 students while giving out more than $450,000 worth of grocery gift cards.
"It is our goal to continue growing this program to impact even more students in the coming years," student government representatives said.
