Littering, Loitering Driver From Mansfield Facing Felony Charge: Cops

A Mansfield man who was hanging out at a store for way too long was arrested over the weekend in Coventry on weapons and drug charges.

COVENTRY, CT — Staffers at a Cumberland Farms in Coventry called police after realizing a driver was parked there for "hours," Sunday and the Mansfield resident wound up being arrested on drug and weapons charges, according to an incident report.

Coventry police received the call from Cumby's at 2224 Boston Turnpike at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, and the staff reported that a "suspicious male" had been sitting in his car on the property "for hours" and was throwing garbage out of his vehicle and into the parking lot, according an an incident report.

Officers made contact with the man, who appeared to be intoxicated and who subsequently failed field sobriety tests, according to an incident report. A "collapsible police baton,"along with narcotics that included fentanyl and cocaine, were located in the vehicle, according to an incident report.

The driver was identified as Thomas Slipski 49, of Mansfield. He was charged with carrying weapons in a motor vehicle, driving under the influence, two counts of possessing a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence. Police said Slipski was turned over to the Department of Corrections and given a court date of Nov. 1.
