A Look at UConn's Freshman Class — By The Numbers

Check out a statistical overview of UConn's Class of 2022.

STORRS, CT — First-year students began moving into the University of Connecticut residence halls on Friday. In all, more than 5,000 freshmen will begin their college careers after settling in.

Here's a look at the UConn freshmen — the Class of 2022 — by the numbers:

Enrollment

  • About 5,500 freshmen have enrolled for the fall semester on all UConn campuses
  • About 4,000 are from Connecticut, representing 164 of the 169 towns in the state
  • About 3,764 are at UConn's main campus in Storrs
  • About 650 have enrolled at UConn-Stamford, a record amount
  • Another 1,000 transfer students have enrolled, most of them from Connecticut
  • Overall, 24,375 undergraduate students have enrolled for the fall semester
  • Of those, 19,331 will be based in Storrs

The Makeup

  • The average SAT score of the incoming freshman class is 1306, the highest in UConn history
  • More than 40 percent are "students of color," not including international students
  • This year's freshman class includes 175 valedictorians and salutatorians
  • About 550 are enrolled in UConn's honors program, a new high
  • Half of the freshmen on the Storrs campus were in the top 10 percent of their high school classes
  • About 85 percent were in the top 5 percent of their high school classes

  • More than 38,000 applied to UConn's Class of 2022, a record high
  • In 2001, 13,600 applied
  • About 74 percent of the freshmen are Connecticut natives
  • Overall, about 80 percent of the undergraduates at UConn are state natives
