Magdalena Gomez: Performance Poet at UConn Co-op Bookstore at Storrs Center

Magdalena Gómez is a performance poet, playwright, arts educator, columnist, co-founder and Artistic Director of Teatro V!da and author. Her books include Bullying: Replies, Rebuttals, Confessions and Catharsis: An Intergenerational and Multicultural Anthology and new this fall Shameless Woman, a collection of her poetry published by Red Sugarcane Press. The daughter of a Spanish gypsy father and Puerto Rican mother, Gómez performed for ten years with the late saxophonist Fred Ho. Muriel Fox, co-founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW) writes, “Magdalena Gómez offers us miraculous combinations: social protest with endearing humor; authentic human insights of both U.S. and Puerto Rican society, and feminist inspiration with universal truths. We are fortunate to have this great poet creating new works on our behalf.” Gómez is a special guest of PRLAC.
