Malloy Declares It's 'Husky Weekend' in CT

As the Lady Huskies head to their 8th consecutive NCAA Final Four Tournament, residents statewide are encouraged to show their Husky pride.

As the UConn Lady Huskies head into this weekend’s NCAA Final Four tournament, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Thursday that he is proclaiming Friday, April 3 through Sunday, April 5, as β€œHusky Weekend” in the state.

β€œThe UConn women’s basketball team leads the nation in strength, spirit and drive, and under the leadership of Geno Auriemma have reached their eighth consecutive Final Four,” Malloy said in a statement. β€œWe will be cheering the team on this weekend, and I urge all Connecticut residents to show the nation how proud we are of our hometown team. Let’s get behind them – and let’s show the nation what UConn basketball is all about.”

Malloy will extend β€œHusky Weekend” through Tuesday if the team makes it to the championship. UConn (36-1) will make its eighth consecutive Final Four appearance when they play the Maryland Terrapins in the Final Four game at 9 p.m. Sunday in Tampa.
