Mansfield Man Accused Of Racking Up Charges On Dead Roomie's Cards

MANSFIELD, CT β€” A 33-year-old Mansfield man is facing four criminal charges in a case of charges made to his dead roommate's credit cards, state police said.

Matthew Torres has been charged on a warrant with criminal impersonation, receipt from the illegal use of a credit card, fourth-degree larceny and third-degree identity theft. He posted a $50,000 bond and is due in Rockville Superior Court on April 19, state police said.

The family of the deceased man reported the charges to state police, according to a warrant.

According to a warrant Torres obtained banking information off the deceased man's phone after asking to borrow it to copy pictures for memory purposes, according to a warrant. He then stalled when asked for it back by family members, according to a warrant. Family members then noticed account passwords had been changed.
