Mansfield Resident Receives President’s Citation Award At CCSU

The resident was one of eight students at Central Connecticut State University to receive the award.

MANSFIELD, CT — Mansfield’s Kristina DeVivo was one of eight Central Connecticut State University students recently selected to receive the 2020 President’s Citation Award. The winners will be recognized for their achievement later this year at a ceremony on campus if conditions permit, officials said. The university is operating remotely, and campus is closed to students, faculty and staff.

Students must have excellent academic credentials to be considered for the President’s Citation Award. Most honorees are frequently named to the Dean’s and President’s lists, and they have earned multiple scholarships over their academic careers. While maintaining rigorous academic schedules, these students also find time to present research at conferences, compete in academic contests, and complete prestigious internships.

“I am very proud of these students, who exemplify the true mark of a CCSU graduate,” CCSU President Zulma R. Toro said in a news release. “They are fully invested in their education and motivate others to do the same by example.”

DeVivo double-majored in Political Science and Sociology. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta Sociology Honor Society, and she served as president of both the Political Science Club and the Sociology Club and as treasurer of the Central Marketing Association.

“Kristina’s passion for politics fueled her active participation in the Student Government Association — for which she served as a student senator and later as treasurer — and as a student research and policy assistant for the Center for Public Policy and Social Research at CCSU,” according to the release. “Kristina also provided research and administrative support to O'Neill Endowed Chair Donald DeFronzo, former state senator and mayor of the City of New Britain.”
