Mansfield Resident Thwarts Residential Burglary, Suspect Charged

An alert Mansfield resident was able to thwart a theft and the suspect was caught.

MANSFIELD, CT — An alert Mansfield resident was able to thwart a theft and then relay information on a burglary suspect to state police, which helped them intercept the man, a report indicates.

At 10:20 a.m. on March 4, state police received a 911 call from a homeowner who said she had just interrupted a burglary at her home, according to a report. The homeowner said the suspect had just fled, but she managed to get a phone picture of the vehicle's front end, complete with registration plate, according to a report.

The car was then recognized and intercepted by Willimantic police on Storrs Road and the suspect was detained until state police arrived.

Samuel Vasquez, 52, of New London, was charged with third-degree burglary and criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny, according to a report.
