WATCH: Moose Sighting in Mansfield
A video was taken of a moose in Mansfield Hollow. Have you ever seen one in Connecticut?

Call it a Moose Day in Mansfield.
Michael Fisher was at Mansfield Hollow Saturday, Sept. 26, when he saw a moose walking about in the water.
He took a video of the moose moment and shared it with Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan, who shared it on Facebook. Check out the video below.

While no one knows if moose are native to Connecticut, experts know sightings are increasing.
“Over the past 17 years, moose sightings increased from an average of 4 per year in the mid-1990s to 69 in 2007,” according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. “Based on sightings by the public and deer hunters from 2000 to 2004, Connecticut’s moose population in 2004 was estimated at 63. Without any population management, it will increase 15% in 1 year and 91% in 5 years.”

Facts About Moose: DEEP
- Moose may stand over 6-feet tall
- Females are smaller than males
- Weight: 750 lbs. (cows) to 1,400 lbs. (bulls), on average
- Males shed antlers every year
- Breeding season begins in September
- Birth occurs in late May or June
- Their eyesight is poor but their sense of smell is great
- Moose have heart-shaped tracks
