New Flower Shop Springs up in Storrs

Owner of The Flower Pot wants you to "Get Your Stems in Storrs."

Just in time for summer, a brand new florist has opened in Storrs.

Owner Jessie Shea, a long-time resident of the area, realized her dream and opened - located at 1029 Storrs Rd. - on May 1.

"This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Shea said.

The Flower Pot, which serves Storrs, Mansfield, Ashford, Coventry, Willington and Windham, specializes in fresh flower arrangements, gift baskets, plants and garden supplies.

Shea said she looks to the quality of her unique arrangements to attract customers.

“It you come to me and say I’ve got this antique container and don’t know what to do with it … we’re going to make you something really cool,” she said.

An alumna, Shea credits the school’s vocational agriculture program for sparking her interest in flower arrangements.

“I immediately knew that was my cup of tea,” she said.

During high school, Shea went to work for to hone her craft.

“If it wasn’t for Flowers by Nina hiring me right from high school, fostering my love for flowers, I probably wouldn’t be here,” Shea said.

Although the business is just over a month old, Shea said things have been going well and she couldn't be happier with her decision.

“I’m glad I could open up in Storrs,” Shea said. “This is really where I wanted to be.”

The Flower Pot is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; and is closed on Sunday.
