Old Gampel Pavilion Court Being Turned Into Unique UConn Collectibles

STORRS, CT — Fans of the University of Connecticut basketball teams can now own pieces of the historic Gampel Pavilion court in very creative ways.

UConn this week announced it has partnered with Artsman to create collections of "distinctive items" made from the Gampel court. The collection ranges from wood blocks and "mini courts" to items like bottle openers and desk frames. Each piece is hand-crafted from game-used portions of the court, so "no two items are alike," officials said. Production on the items should begin in "a few weeks," and delivery will take up to four-to-six weeks from time of purchase.

The 33-year-old wood floor was installed at Gampel for its opening in January 1990 and has been sanded and refinished annually to "keep it in playable condition," officials said. The court has been a part of 16 national basketball championships two Big East championships for volleyball.

"Gampel Pavilion is one of the great college basketball venues in the country with so many Husky greats having taken that court, creating countless signature moments during the last 33 years," says UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict.

Officials said future pieces and items will be available for purchase and up for a blind auction with further details to come, officials said.
