UConn Student Killed In Mansfield Crash: UPDATE

Police are seeking witnesses to the Tuesday night crash that killed a University of Connecticut graduate student.

MANSFIELD, CT — A University of Connecticut graduate student was killed and a driver was injured in a Tuesday night crash in Mansfield, according to state police. A Hyundai Elantra was traveling on South Eagleville Road/Route 275 approaching the intersection with Eastwood Road at 5:08 p.m., State Police said.

Nhoung Nguyen, 28, of S. Eagleville Road, was crossing the road when he was hit by the Hyundai, State Police said. Both the driver and Nguyen were transported to Windham Hospital. Nguyen was later pronounced deceased.

Route 275 in the area of Eastwood Road in Mansfield, was shutdown Tuesday night due to the crash investigation.

Nguyen was a PhD student in computer science and engineering at UConn, according to WTNH News 8. The university released a statement which said in part: "We send our sincere condolences to all who have been affected by this tragic incident and join Nhuong’s family and friends in grieving his passing."

The university has notified Nhoung's family in Vietnam.
