Police Dogs Uncover Drugs At 2 Mansfield Traffic Stops

Police dogs were 2 for 2 with drug detections during a pair of traffic stops in Mansfield one day last week.

MANSFIELD, CT β€” Police dogs discovered drug stashes in two cars after same-day stops in Mansfield last week.

At 3:45 p.m on March 22, state police saw a red Honda Accord with no front plate driving along the 800 block of Stafford Road, according to a state police police report. Upon approaching the vehicle troopers suspected that drugs were in the car and canine Drago was deployed, according to an arrest report.

After Drago alerted troopers to the presence of narcotics, a search was conducted and it uncovered 1.1 grams of crack cocaine and prescription drugs not in their original containers, according to an arrest report. A 57-year-old Storrs man was charged for the container violation and a 44-year-old from Middletown was charged with drug and motor vehicle charges, according to an arrest report.

That same day, at 6:14 p.m., trooper stopped a Kia Optima for motor vehicle violations on Storrs road. A subsequent canine search uncovered "a significant amount of narcotics" and a 36-year-old Windham resident was charged with possession, according to an arrest report.

A 39-year-old Windham resident was charged with several drug and motor vehicle violations.
