Promising Young Hoop Player With UConn Aspirations Killed Outside New York City

The girl was killed Saturday.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A promising young basketball player from just outside New York City who had aspirations of playing for the University of Connecticut was shot and killed over the weekend, Fox61 reported, citing the Associated Press.

Shamoya McKenzie, a 13-year-old eight-grader from Mount Vernon, NY, was hit by a stray bullet while returning home from basketball practice on Saturday, according to the report.
