Scarecrow Contest Coming To Downtown Mansfield

MANSFIELD, CT — The Mansfield Downtown Partnership is inviting local families, organizations, groups, businesses, and clubs to participate in a new scarecrow decorating contest this fall.

It will be part of the as part of the 19th-annual Celebrate Mansfield Festival.

"With the Festival taking place just as autumn begins, our planning committee thought a scarecrow contest would be a fun way to celebrate the season and provide a creative outlet for folks," said. Denise Kegler, the event coordinator for the Mansfield Downtown Partnership. "We are excited to see what participants create."

Participants are being invited create their own hand-made, self-supporting scarecrow, which should be 3-to 5-feet
tall. Decorative themes should be family friendly like harvest-themed, whimsical, humorous or a theme of choice (frightening imagery should be avoided). In keeping with the low-waste focus of the festival, the Partnership is encouraging the use of natural, recyclable, and repurposed materials.

The scarecrows will be on display during the Celebrate Mansfield Festival on Sept. 24.

Visitors will vote on their favorite scarecrows at the Mansfield Downtown Partnership booth from 2 to 6 p.m. The top three vote-getters will receive prizes.

There is no cost to participate, but registration is required. More information and the registration form
can be found at downtownstorrsfestival.org. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 16. Space is limited, so early registration is being encouraged.

The Celebrate Mansfield Festival is free and open to everyone.
