Scooter Race Crash Leads to Charge Against UConn Hoop Player
Charges were filed against a UConn basketball player after a scooter race, police said.

STORRS, CT — The University of Connecticut's ongoing scooter mayhem problem has led to a high profile arrest with a charge filed again junior men's basketball player Jalen Adams on Wednesday.
The incident took place at 8:33 p.m. on Hillside road neat the Gilbert Road intersection, police said. Three witnesses told police than four men were traveling southbound on Hillside Road in four separate scooters, according to an arrest report.
One scooter crashed and the driver left it in the road, hopped on one of the three remaining scooters and sped off with the other three, according to an arrest report. Bystanders had to clear the road of debris, according to an arrest report.

He was issued a summons for evading responsibility. He had to sit out a practice and will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, a UConn basketball spokesman said.
Adams, of Dorchester, MA, was identified and he later admitted to the crash, according to an arrest report.

For about two years, the Storrs campus has been plagued by reckless scooter driving, police have said.
Police even issued information several times on how to drive a scooter and the expected behavior on campus when driving them.
