Human Remains Discovered In Chaplin; State Police Investigation Underway

CHAPLIN, CT — Human remains were discovered Friday morning in a wooded area, and police believe they may belong to a woman who was reported missing this past fall, according to state police.

At about 8:03 a.m. Friday, people walking in the area called state police with Troop D to report they had discovered what they believed to be human remains.

Troopers went to the site, in the vicinity of North Bedlam Road and Bedlam Road, and proceeded on foot into the woods. Police located and confirmed the presence of human remains, state police said.

The Eastern District Major Crime Unit was notified and the investigation is ongoing.

“Preliminary information suggests the remains may be connected to a female individual reported missing in the fall,” state police said.

As of Friday evening, state police said they are not releasing the name of the individual until positive confirmation is made by the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner.

The location is in the vicinity of the Natchaug River and Natchaug State Forest.
