Survey Rates Willimantic An 'Underrated' Travel Destination

WILLIMANTIC, CT — Willimantic has been identified in a survey as a "hidden gem" in Connecticut that deserves more tourists.

In a list released Monday, AI-powered business growth platform Hostinger surveyed 3,000 travelers to identify the towns they think have the most untapped tourism potential.

Willi had "the most untapped tourist potential," in Connecticut according to the survey."

Here's what was said about Willimantic, No. 69 nationally:

"Willimantic’s brick mill buildings, busy Main Street and creative community give it a character unlike Connecticut’s more polished New England towns.

"The Windham Textile and History Museum reflects the city’s industrial past, while the surviving architecture offers a visible reminder of the period when textile manufacturing shaped the local economy.

"Willimantic Brewing Company has become one of downtown’s best-known businesses, occupying a historic former post office and adding to the area’s independent atmosphere. Murals, local events, restaurants and small shops give the city an energy that feels informal rather than carefully curated. By building on that individuality, Willimantic could appeal to travelers looking for somewhere lively, unconventional and distinctly local."
