Suspect In Eastern Connecticut Stabbing Case Located In Maine

EASTERN CONNECTICUT — A Willimantic woman has been charged in connection with a May stabbing that left a woman dumped at a boat launch in Thompson, state police said.

Cassandra Heredia, 31, was extradited from Maine by Eastern District Major Crime Detectives on the strength of an active arrest warrant on Monday, state police said. She was charged with:

  • First-degree assault
  • Conspiracy to commit first-degree assault
  • Third-degree assault 3rd Degree

Heredia was arraigned in Danielson Superior Court shortly after her arrest and her initial $175,000 bond was trimmed to $150,000. She sis not post it and remained in custody Wednesday and is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 9, judicial system records show.

The May 10 stabbing was the result of a disagreement over drugs. According to a warrant, a woman said she was picked up by a black Ford compact car with Heredia and an unknown driver near the Burger King in Willimantic. She told state police she was then punched in the face and stabbed multiple times in the leg with a pocket knife, according to a warrant.

She was then dumped at a boat launch on Fabyan Road in Thompson, according to a warrant.

According to a warrant, during the assault, Heredia was Face-Timing 41-year-old Walter Lawson and asking his advice. Lawson was subsequently charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.
