'Suspicious Package' Prompted Response To Mansfield Drive-In: Police

MANSFIELD, CT — The heavy police presence at the Mansfield Drive-In Sunday was related to a "suspicious package" being located on the property, state police said.

State police released an update on the incident Tuesday.

According tp a state police report, at 2:06 p.m. Sunday, state troopers from the Troop C barracks responded to 228 Stafford Road after receiving a report about a suspicious package. That's the address of the Mansfield Drive-In.

The package was "rendered safe" at the scene by the State Police Emergency Services Unit.

"Evidence was recovered and will be examined," state police said.

The package was located as the weekly flea market was winding down.

The incident remains under investigation by the Eastern District Major Crime Squad. State police said anyone with information is asked to contact EDMC Detective Jon Baisley at 860-896-3233.

State police said a common suggestion paid off.

"This serves as a reminder if you see something, say something," state police said. "If anyone sees a package, bag, or item that appears suspicious or unattended do not touch or tamper with the item and notify police immediately."
