Two Liquor Establishments Snagged in Underage Sale Sting Near UConn

A student was used in the operation, state police said.

MANSFIELD, CT — Two liquor stores near the University of Connecticut were caught selling alcohol to an underage customer as part of a state police sting. law enforcement officials said.

The undercover operation took place on Friday and it involved the state police Troop C barracks, the Mansfield Resident Trooper’s Office and the Department of Consumer Protection Liquor Control Division.

During the operation in Mansfield, a volunteer 20 year-old student was used in the attempted to purchases of alcoholic beverages from 10 separate liquor stores, state police said. In all, eight were in compliance and denied the student sales, state police said.

Two of the liquor stores, however, failed the compliance check and sold alcohol to the minor.

They were the Bird Dog Discount Liquor store on Route 32 in Mansfield and Bombadil’s Liquor store on Storrs Road, state police said.

Both will be facing administrative sanctions from the Liquor Control Division, state police said.
