STORRS/GROTON, CT — University of Connecticut officials are looking for developers and "others" who have "innovative, cost-effective ideas" on how to build student housing at the Avery Point campus.

The premise is to help "bring that vibrant campus to the next level," officials said.

UConn has issued a “Request for Expressions of Interest” that invites "interested parties" to submit details on how they would build and fund student housing on the Avery Point campus to accommodate 150 to 250 students.

Issuing the RFEI is part of a "broader emphasis" on potential enhancements at UConn's waterfront campus in Groton, including the possibility of adding more majors that students can fully complete on site without the need to transfer to Storrs, officials said.

It also comes as UConn is "significantly expanding" its student housing near the Stamford campus by adding a student housing option in downtown Hartford for the first time, along with preparing to open its new 657-bed residence hall at Storrs in August.
