UConn officials on Wednesday released statistics on its incoming freshman class.

STORRS, CT — UConn's incoming freshman class was touted Wednesday as being "overwhelmingly from Connecticut," and one "bringing talent and unprecedented diversity" to its campuses.
Here's a fact sheet on the UConn Class of 2023:

- About 5,450 freshmen are enrolling this fall across all UConn campuses.
- About 77 percent are Connecticut residents, coming from 162 of the state’s 169 towns and cities.
- About 3,650 of the freshmen are enrolling at UConn in Storrs.
- The overall undergraduate student body will be about 24,200, a record high.
- Overall, about 4,600 of those undergraduates will be enrolled at the campuses in Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury and Avery Point.
- Another 1,000 transfer students, about 87 percent from in-state, are also enrolling this fall in UConn, including from the state’s 13 community colleges.
Freshman Demographics and Accomplishments
- Average SAT of incoming Storrs freshmen is 1,296, highest in UConn history behind only last year’s 1306 score.
- This year’s class sets records for diversity, with 41 percent being students of color (not including international students).
- UConn attracted a record 176 valedictorians and salutatorians among this year’s freshmen.
- About 580 freshmen at Storrs and 22 at Stamford will be joining the UConn Honors Program, a new high.

- More than 39,000 people applied for UConn’s freshman class, a new high.
- By comparison, UConn received 13,600 applications in 2001.
- Overall, about 80 percent of UConn undergraduates are Connecticut natives.
