UConn Considering $4.75M in Gift Funds for Sports Facilities Design
Upgrades for several UConn athletic facilities are on the books.

STORRS, CT — A project to renovate the in intercollegiate athletic facilities in one corner of the University of Connecticut campus will likely be using $4.75 million in gift funds for planning purposes, according to updated budget figures.
The UConn Board of Trustees will be considering approving the number, which represents the project through the planning phase, on Wednesday.
The total cost is estimated at $46 million, according to documents in the trustees agenda. It will be paid for through gifts and bonding, according to a project outline.

The plan is to renovate or replace "outdated" facilities for soccer, baseball and softball and relocated the venue for track and field throwing events, according to a project outline. The potential construction of a new hockey arena will also be studied though constructions costs for a roughly 4,500-seat arena is not included in the $46 million estimate, according to a project outline.
Bid documents should be done by year's end with construction starting in the spring of 2018, according to a project outline.
