UConn FD Better Prepared for Modern Campus With New Truck

The UConn FD's new truck can handle all the campus has to offer.

STORRS, CT β€” The University of Connecticut Fire Department has a new, state-of-the art ladder truck built for difficult fires, emergencies in high places, and other complex rescue calls.

The new Tower 122 truck was delivered to the University this spring, and went into service July 7 after the a few practice runs and firefighter training, officials said.

The new vehicle replaces the department’s 1994 truck, which had outlived its 20-year service life and was increasingly out of service in need of costly repairs.

The new Rosenbauer truck has a water capacity of 300 gallons and, when attached to a hydrant, can pump 1,500 gallons per minute, officials said.

The price of the truck was $1.2 million after the competitive bidding process. UConn received $50,000 on a trade-in for a 23-year-old tower truck, officials said.
