UConn Speaker's Case Dropped, Woman Charged for Taking Notes

UConn brawl: Hours after a woman was charged for taking a conservative speaker's notes, the speaker had a charge dropped.

VERNON/STORRS, CT – The state on Monday dropped its case against a conservative speaker involved in a brawl at the University of Connecticut about two weeks ago, hours after the woman accused of taki g his notes from a podium was charged by UConn police.

Lucian Wintrich is a political artist and commentator and the White House correspondent for The Gateway Pundit. The Nov. 28 speech, sponsored by campus Republicans, was entitled, "It's Okay to be White."

Before Monday's court proceedings, he said he would ask a judge to drop the breach of peace charge against him and that is exactly what happened. He tweeted immediately after, "All charges against me were dropped outright. The leftist thug who stole my speech was arrested. The fight is still not over."

Surveillance video shows Wintrich speaking and a female approaching the podium and removing something. Wintrich said Monday it was the only hard copy of his notes.

The video then shows him following her into the crowd, seeming to aggressively retrieve the paper and a scuffle ensued involving multiple people.

The hall was then cleared by police, authorities said.

In a warrant served on Sunday, 33-year-old Catherine Gregory was charged with criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny and disorderly conduct. She posted a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, according to a warrant.

Police in a warrant said she had been heckling Wintrich during the speech.
