UConn Women Stunned by Mississippi State

UConn took on Mississippi State in the Final Four on Friday.

The University of Connecticut women's basketball team had its 111-game winning streak snapped on Friday with a 66-64 overtime loss to Mississippi State in the 2016-17 NCAA Final Four in Dallas.

MSU point guard Morgan William hit a buzzer-beater for the win.

UConn had come into the game at 36-0 in 2016-17 and 11 national titles. MSU came into the game at 33-4.

MSU will play South Carolina Sunday for the national championship. South Carolina defeated Stanford 63-53 in the other national semifinal.

Mississippi State came out blazing and turned a nine-point first-quarter lead into a 29-13 advantage with 7:25 to go in the second quarter.

UConn answered that 14-0 MSU run with a 12-0 run of its own to make it 29-25, but MSU went into the locker room with a 36-28 advantage.

It just the second time UConn has trailed at the half this season and only the fourth occasion in the 111-game winning streak.

UConn chipped away to begin the second half and took its first lead at 40-39 with 6:14 remaining in the third.

Things were tied at 48 after three. And at 60 at the end of regulation.
