UConn Women's Basketball Team Loses NCAA Title To South Carolina
South Carolina defeated the University of Connecticut Sunday night to win the NCAA championship in Minneapolis.

South Carolina prevented the University of Connecticut women's basketball team from earning its 12th NCAA title Sunday night. South Carolina defeated UConn by a score of 64-49.
UConn began the game slowly, falling behind by 14 points, and South Carolina led the majority of the game by 10 or more points. UConn did have a third quarter surge and closed the gap to six points, but South Carolina started the fourth quarter strong and pushed the lead back to double digits.
UConn had advanced to the championship game after defeating the Stanford Cardinal on Friday night.

Gov. Ned Lamont had proclaimed Friday, April 1, through Sunday, April 3, 2022, as “Husky Weekend” in the State of Connecticut in recognition of the UConn women’s basketball team for playing in the NCAA Final Four tournament which began on Friday night.
The governor urged all Connecticut residents to show their Husky pride by wearing UConn Huskies gear, displaying UConn flags and signs, and sporting blue and white.

“The Huskies have been nothing short of inspirational and I am incredibly thrilled that they will be representing Connecticut on a national stage this weekend,” Lamont said on Friday. “These student athletes have represented UConn with integrity, character, and competitive excellence both on and off the court and are inspiring many young basketball fans who want to follow in their footsteps."
