UConn Women's Hoop Team Inks 4 Recruits in Early Signing Period

Meet the newest Huskies who signed National Letters of Intent.

STORRS, CTThe University of Connecticut women's basketball team received National Letters of Intent from four student-athletes during the early signing period.

Head Coach Geno Auriemma made the announcement on Thursday.

Mikayla Coombs, Alexis Gordon, Andra Espinoza-Hunter and Megan Walker will join the Huskies for the 2017-18 season.

5-8 guard, Buford, GA

She is UConn's first recruit from Georgia since four-time All-American, three-time Wade Trophy winner, and 2011 graduate Maya Moore. She \Also considered Georgia, Penn State, Stanford, and Virginia.

Coombs enters her senior year with 777 points, 418 rebounds, 126 assists, and 186 steals in 64 games for Wesleyan School of Norcross, GA.

As a junior, Coombs averaged 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists to lead Wesleyan School to a 27-5 record and a berth in the Class 2A state tournament final. She had 12 points in the championship game overtime loss to Holy Innocents.

Coombs missed almost all of her sophomore season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in the first quarter of the first game. As a freshman, she averaged 11.8 points and 4.8 rebounds. She was a candidate for the 2016 U-17 United States national team.

Her father, Stephen, was a member of Jamaica's national soccer team. She has been an honor roll student all three of her high school years.

Alexis Gordon

6-0 guard-forward, Fort Worth, TX

Gordon is UConn's second recruit from Texas, joining two-time All-American and 2016 graduate Moriah Jefferson as a UConn player. She also considered Baylor, Texas, and her parents' alma mater, TCU.

Gordon has started every game in her first three years at L.D. Bell High and enters her senior year as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,895 points. She also has 760 rebounds and 136 assists in her high school career. As a junior, Gordon averaged 24.7 points and 9.5 rebounds for a 20-11 team. As a sophomore, she averaged 22.7 points and 7.7 rebounds for an 18-14 club.

Gordon was a candidate for the 2015 U-16 United States national team and the 2016 U-17 United States national team.

Her dad, Myron, played basketball at TCU from 1990-94. Her mom, Kim, played basketball at TCU from 1992-96. Gordon entered her senior year with a 3.8 grade point average and was ranked in the top 15 percent of her class.

Andra Espinoza-Hunter

5-11 guard, Ossining, NY

Espinoza-Hunter will play her senior year at Ossining High after attending high school for three years at Blair Academy in New Jersey.

She is a former teammate of UConn senior Saniya Chong at Ossining and of UConn sophomore Batouly Camara at Blair Academy.

Espinoza-Hunter also considered Duke.

She started her high school career as a seventh-grader at Ossining High and in two seasons scored 478 career points and made 99 3-pointers. She was part of Ossining's 2013 state championship team.

Espinoza-Hunter helped Blair Academy to three league and three state prep championships in three seasons.

As a junior, she averaged 25.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while reaching the 1,000-point plateau. As a sophomore, she averaged 19.1 points and 6.5 rebounds.

Espinoza-Hunter was a member of the 2015 U-16 United States national team and averaged 10.0 points and 3.8 rebounds as Team USA went 4-1 and won a bronze medal at the FIBA Americas Championship. She was a candidate for the 2016 U-17 United States national team.

MEGAN WALKER

6-1 guard-forward, Chesterfield, VA

Walker is ranked as the No. 1 recruit nationally in the Class of 2017 by ESPNHoopgurlz.

She also considered Notre Dame and Texas.

Walker was named Virginia's 2015 and 2016 Gatorade Player of the Year and Class 4A Player of the Year.

Walker has totals of 1,389 points, 502 rebounds, and 186 steals over three seasons and 79 games at Monacan High. As a junior, she led Monacan to a 29-1 record and second straight Virginia Class 4A state title by averaging 21.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.2 steals. Walker reached the 1,000-point plateau during the season with a career best of 50 points on Feb. 5 against Cosby.

As a sophomore, Walker averaged 19.1 points and 7.1 rebounds for a 24-4 state championship club.

Walker is a member of Monacan's academic honor roll and owned a 3.65 grade point average entering her senior year. She picked up her first two medals with USA Basketball during the summer of 2016. She earned all-tournament honors as she helped the United States win silver at the FIBA U-18 3x3 world championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. She then averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals as she helped Team USA capture gold at the FIBA Americas U-18 Championship in Valdivia, Chile.
