MANSFIELD, CT — A suspected drunken driver took out a sign Saturday after crashing a utility van in Mansfield, state police said.

According to a state police crash report, at 8:40 p.m., a Ram Promaster City van registered to a leasing company in Wisconsin with Connecticut combination plates was traveling west on Route 44 about a mile east of the Route 195 intersection. The van left the road, hit a wooden sign on private property and then veered into some bushed before hitting a tree head-on, according to a crash report.

The driver, a 39-year-old South Windsor man, was not injured, but failed at sobriety test at the scene and was charged with driving under the influence, according to a crash report.

He posted a $500 bond and is due in court on Sept. 10, state police said.
