Was UConn's Jonathan Injured in Cubs Celebration?

He mysteriously appears in a post-World Series ESPN promo wearing the 'cone of shame.'

STORRS/BRISTOL, CT — It appears that Jonathan, the University of Connecticut's Husky Mascot, was slightly injured in a post-World Series celebration.

ESPN aired a Sports Center promo a short time after the Chicago Cubs ended a century-long slump with a Game 7 win over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday. The ad features a staffer updating a board indicating how many years have passed since the Cubs won it all.

Jonathan then appears wearing a plastic protective cone around his head and changes the board noting how many days have passed since a workplace accident.

UConn Deputy Spokesman Tom Breen is an avid Cubs fan. He said he was not with Jonathan at the time of the alleged incident, but also wanted to assure Husky fans the mascot is OK.

"Jonathan is not seriously injured," he said without elaborating.

The cone is referred to in the children's move "Bolt," the chronicle of a super dog, as "the cone of shame."
