Water Focus of Summer Art Exhibits at UConn Libraries

Water is the theme of the UConn Libraries’ Summer Art exhibits, which begin July 14 and end on October 24.  The first exhibit, “Modeling the Art and Engineering of Roman Aqueducts with Legos™,” features a series of aqueducts constructed of Legos™ by UConn Professor of Geology Gary Robbins.  The constructions simulate ancient Roman structures that were used to transport water.  The second, “Average Joe Photo Show,” is a combination photography exhibition and philanthropic project, which showcases images of water and the human figure taken with cell phone or tablet, and benefits an international water organization.

 The “Average Joe Photo Show” originated at the Lori Warner Gallery in Chester, CT and was the brainchild of friends Lori Warner and Rebecca Steiner.  The exhibition features 234 eclectic photographs taken in Connecticut and as well as far-flung corners of the world by photographers, both professional and amateur.  A portion of the proceeds from sales benefit water.org, an organization providing access to safe water and sanitation to people worldwide.

A public reception will take place on Thursday, August 28 from 5-6:30 p.m. in Homer Babbidge Library.
