Works by Renowned Artist Taken in Willimantic Commercial Burglary

State police released descriptions of the stolen items on Wednesday.

WILLIMANTIC, CT — Thieves made off with works by renowned painter Christian Seidler in a weekend burglary at Progressive Data Systems state police said on Wednesday.

The business is located at 148 Club Road in Willimantic. The heist took place Sunday, state police said.

Seidler is best known for his fine portraiture work. He is also the founder of Matricism, "a new language for expression in art," according to his Web site.

That, state police said, makes the works "easily recognizable," because the oil-on-canvas paintings are comprised of thousands of raised dabs of oil paint. The series of “dabs” combine to create a textured work of art, according to the artist's Web site.

Most of the paintings measure 30-x-44 inches, state police said. and "should be easily recognizable," statre police said.

Several Apple IMac computers were stolen, as were several antique clocks and other paintings.

Anyone who has any information regarding the suspect/s involved in the burglary, or may know the location of the stolen items, is asked to contact the Eastern District Major Crime detectives at 860-465 5400 or the anonymous tip line at 860-465 5469 and leave information, or text TIP711 with the information to 274637.

All calls will remain confidential, state police said.
