Person Killed In Wrong-Way Crash On I-691 In Meriden Identified
The crash shut down a portion of I-691 in Meriden for several hours on Tuesday morning.

MERIDEN, CT — In a Tuesday afternoon update, Connecticut State Police say a New York woman who was a passenger in a vehicle was killed in a wrong-way crash that occurred on I-691 in Meriden during the overnight hours. At about 3:05 a.m. on May 29, state troopers responded to a head-on crash involving a car into a tractor-trailer on I-691 East in the area of Exit 5 in Meriden. The passenger has been identified as Marieta Morchadze, 35, of Brooklyn, New York, according to police.
Arriving troopers found a Nissan Versa and a tractor-trailer involved in a head-on crash. Police say the Nissan was traveling in the wrong direction on I-691, westbound on the eastbound side of the highway, when it struck the tractor-trailer.
Police say Morchadze was killed in the crash, while the operator was hospitalized with a minor injury and the driver of the tractor-trailer wasn’t injured.

The crash closed a portion of I-691 East in Meriden for several hours on Tuesday.

MERIDEN, CT — One person was killed in a wrong-way crash on I-691 in Meriden on Tuesday morning, according to Connecticut State Police. The crash occurred at about 3 a.m. and closed I-691 East near Exit 5 in Meriden for several hours. The crash involved one car and at least one tractor-trailer, according to state police.
Police said extrication was needed and a life-threatening injury was reported. Police said in an update that all lanes were reopened as of 9:40 a.m. and there was one fatality as a result of the crash. No further information was immediately provided.
