6 Arrested After Crashing Stolen Vehicle In Meriden: Police
Witnesses told police the driver of the stolen vehicle was speeding through traffic before crashing into a utility pole.
MERIDEN, CT — Six people were arrested after crashing in a stolen vehicle Monday afternoon in Meriden, according to police.
Police responded around 2:40 p.m. to a report of a crash with people running from the crashed vehicle, according to officials.
“Witnesses in the area were providing dispatchers with detailed accounts of the events actively taking place,” police wrote in a news release. “Upon arrival, officers determined that the crashed vehicle was stolen out of West Hartford. One witness described that he had to make an abrupt stop due to the stolen vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed through traffic before striking a utility pole.”

Several men ran from the car after the crash, according to police.
“Meriden Fire and Eversource Electric had to be summoned to the scene due to the destruction and hazards caused by the crash,” police said.

Police said officers canvassed the area and found everyone involved as they were trying to get into a vehicle being driven by Miguel Angel Acevedo Jr.
Robert Barbera, 18, Acevedo Jr., 20, Jeremy Gonzalez-Torres, 18, and three juveniles were all taken into custody in connection with the incident, according to police.
Barbera was charged with first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, interfering with police, and risk of injury to a minor. He was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
Police said Barbera is currently out on bond pending a previous Meriden case for reckless driving and operating without a license.
Gonzalez-Torres was charged with first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, interfering with police, and risk of injury to a minor. He was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
Acevedo was charged with risk of injury to a minor, interfering with police, reckless driving, and engaging police in pursuit. He was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
Police said Acevedo is currently out on bond pending cases in multiple jurisdictions for various charges such as: second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespass, breach of peace, interfering with police, violation of probation, carrying dangerous weapons, illegal weapons in a motor vehicle, multiple motor vehicle infractions, second-degree assault, and risk of injury to a minor.
