Man Charged In Armed Robbery Of Convenience Store In Meriden: Police

The arrest stems from an investigation into a series of nine armed robberies that took place in Meriden, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — A man has been arrested on new charges in connection with a robbery spree investigation in Meriden last year, according to police.

Between the months of September to November, Meriden police said they investigated a series of nine armed robberies that were believed to have been committed by two people.

Five robberies involved a suspect armed with what appeared to be a gun, according to police.

Police said following a multi-agency investigation and surveillance operation, 41-year-old Corey Alexis was apprehended as he prepared to commit another armed robbery at a local convenience store.

Alexis was found in possession of a BB gun, according to police. He was charged with first-degree criminal attempt to commit robbery and carrying a dangerous weapon.

He was held in lieu of a $1 million bond with additional charges expected while the additional robbery incidents were being investigated, according to police.

On Oct. 14, police said members of the Meriden Police Department responded to Sam’s Food Mart at 343 West Main Street on the report of an armed robbery with a gun.

Police said Alexis was identified as the suspect following an extensive investigation.

Alexis, who is currently incarcerated, was formally charged on Wednesday, April 29, with first-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny. He was held in lieu of a $250,000 bond on those charges.

“The Meriden Police Department would like to thank members of the Middletown Police Department, Connecticut State Police, Watertown Police Department, West Hartford Police Department, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force for their assistance during these investigations,” police wrote in a news release. “The Meriden Police Department wants our community to know if a dangerous individual comes into our community and commits violent crimes against our residents and business owners, we will use every resource available to identify, arrest, and hold that person fully accountable. We will continue to work with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure offenders are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We will not tolerate those who threaten the safety of our community.”
