Child, 4, Struck By Vehicle Driven By Mother In CVS Parking Lot: Meriden Police

A 4-year-old child was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle driven by their mother in the CVS parking lot, police said.

MERIDEN, CT — A 4-year-old child suffered a traumatic head injury after being struck by their family’s vehicle in the CVS parking lot in Meriden on Thursday, according to police.

Police responded around 5:15 p.m. on May 28 to the CVS parking lot at 153 Broad Street on the report of a bleeding child being placed in a vehicle that was leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed, according to Lt. Darrin McKay.

McKay said arriving officers found evidence of an unknown injury in the parking lot. Police were then notified that a 4-year-old was being treated at MidState Medical Center for a traumatic head injury, according to McKay.

As officers arrived at MidState to investigate, McKay said police learned that the child was taken to Connecticut Children's Hospital in Hartford.

After finding the child’s mother at Connecticut Children's Hospital, where the child was being treated, McKay said police learned that the child had been struck by the family's vehicle in the CVS parking lot.

McKay said the mother was driving the vehicle and didn’t know the child wasn’t in the vehicle before she started to drive away and injured the child. The incident was later corroborated by video evidence, according to McKay.

The driver and family are cooperating with police, and McKay said the child was listed in stable condition and recovering at Connecticut Children's Hospital.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Officer William White at 203-630-6201 or wwhite@meridenct.gov.
