Meriden Man Killed In Crash, State Police Say

The highway was closed for several hours Tuesday before reopening, according to CT DOT.

MERIDEN, CT — A 22-year-old Meriden man was killed Tuesday morning in a crash on Interstate 91 south in Windsor, according to Connecticut State Police.

Frank Jason Mute, 22, of Meriden, was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

The crash happened shortly before 11:20 a.m. on I-91 south, north of Exit 35B, according to state police and the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

State police said the crash involved a Mercedes-Benz and a Volvo VN tractor-trailer. The Mercedes-Benz struck the rear of the tractor-trailer in the center lane, according to state police.

The crash closed I-91 south between exits 36 and 35B for several hours Tuesday. The road has since reopened, according to CT DOT.

The Connecticut State Police accident reconstruction team, known as CARS, responded to the scene.

The case remains under investigation.

State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact TFC John Wilson #1060 at john.wilson@ct.gov. Drivers with dashboard cameras who were traveling through the area at the time of the crash are also asked to contact Wilson.
